“The place where one lives permanently, especially as a member of a family or household.”
Welcome to my first blog. Here, I’ll be keeping track of the progress made while I do my due diligence to build our house into a safe space. You’ll get to read about my experience in DIY projects, curating room visions, and adding my special touch to each and every corner of our home.
If home improvement is your type of vibe, you’re in the right space.
My husband and I just bought our first home and he’s giving me a great amount of creative control. For me, this means the chance to carefully curate a space that feels inviting and comfortable our family. We want to love it here. We want it to feel like our unique version of a home.
Home. I often think about the many things that make a home, something someone feels honored to find comfort. Is it the people who are in it? Is it the way it balances you? Maybe it’s the way it looks in relation to the memory it will hold. I think it’s all of these things. To simplify my thoughts, I’d like to think of the 3 S’s.
When I think of a home, I think of a love that is stable, secure and stylish. These three S’s mean so much to me because they speak to how grounded a home is. Now, this is just my opinion, I’m sure everyone has their own variations of what makes their homes balanced. Here in my home, these are just a few key ingredients to a solid foundation.
Stability and security, humans have to feel these things in order to truly unwind into the comfort of a place. A lot of people relate these feelings with money. I know I did. I held myself back by thinking that I wasn’t comfortable if things didn’t look the way I desired for them to appear. Not having security in my thoughts made me unbalanced. Luckily, my journey has taught me the importance of self-acceptance. There will alway be enough.
By seeking the wisdom that led me to the doorsteps of these lessons, my style has blossomed. I see the untapped potential in the corners of my home. To open my eyes to my style, I had to grow strength in what it is that I love and wear it proudly. My confidence has to be so solid that no one can knock me off of my balance.
Your style… everything you do, is in your style. And vice versa, whether you like it or not. From the way you breathe, dance, laugh, dress… it’s all you. The way you love is your own style and it shows deeply in your home. A person’s home can say a lot about them. Some are messy, some are clean, some are barely used. You can walk into a person’s home and know their style. You can see if they are minimalist, a maximalist, or even still discovering themselves, like myself.
Style adds the personalities to a home. You walk into one bedroom and it’s neat and organized, like your oldest kid. Then you walk into your younger child’s room and it looks like a month’s worth of clothes scattered all over the place. Maybe the bathroom that is the most used is completely decorated and styled to your comfort, but the guest bathroom (rarely used) is barely decorated with a roll of toilet paper. Style is such an important part of a home because it reminds us that we live here. Not just our bodies right here in this moment, but our souls. We linger that way.
I’ve decided to start this blog and I’m so excited to embark on my journey to further find and understand my style. This is my way of being able to track my progress as I express my creativity through my home. Here, I’m transparent about the highs and the lows of the various DIY projects I create, staying encouraged and walking through my dreams. Through my experiences, hopefully someone out there will gain clarity on ideas they may want to breathe life into. Maybe they will give an honest try.
If you would like to stay updated on my journey of creation, I will also be keeping my social platforms up to date with all of my visions and ideas. You can find me on TikTok and Pinterest @trywithzi. I also keep my Benable updated with plenty of product recommendations for interior decor.
